A mass shooting has taken place in the Canadian city of Toronto, with at least 12 people injured. Four of the victim’s injuries are non-life threatening, but the conditions of the others are unknown. The suspect was “wearing a black balaclava,” according to police. He escaped the scene in a silver vehicle and is still at large.
The shooting occured in Scarborough, a district of Toronto, at around 10.39pm local time. Olivia Chow, mayor of Toronto, said: “I am deeply troubled to hear reports of a shooting at a pub in Scarborough. I have spoken to (Toronto Police Chief Myron) Demkiw and he has assured me all necessary resources have been deployed. This is an early and ongoing investigation – police will provide further details. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
Toronto paramedics had said 11 adults suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical, but police later said 12 people were hurt and that four people had non-life-threatening injuries, but the extent of the remaining injuries was still unknown.
Police said they were called to reports of a shooting at the Piper Arms pub in Scarborough and are urging people to avoid the scene at Progress Ave and Corporate Drive in an eastern area of Toronto.
The shooting happened near the Scarborough Town Centre, a shopping centre near Highway 401 and McCowan Road.
Armed police, several ambulances, and fire engines are in the area as the hunt for the suspect continues.
