A horrific video has emerged showing a knifeman attacking a bishop and several worshippers at a church in Sydney, Australia.

Bishop Mari Emmanuel was preaching at The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley when the assailant walked to the altar and stabbed him several times.

The harrowing incident was captured on the church’s YouTube livestream, which shows the bishop looking up in shock before the attacker brings his knife down several times on his face and head.

Horrified onlookers rushed forward and screams could be heard as the bishop fell to the floor. Reports suggest at least two other people were stabbed in the incident.

New South Wales Police released an update on the incident confirming one suspect was in custody.

The statement read: “A police operation is underway in Wakeley, following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended a location on Welcome Street, Wakeley following reports a number of people were stabbed.

“Officers arrested a male and he is assisting police with inquiries.

“The injured people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. More information will be provided once it becomes available.”

Bishop Emmanuel has a large following on social media with around 17,000 followers on Facebook alone.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he slammed Sydney’s lockdown policies calling them “mass slavery” and disparaged vaccines claiming living “normally” would boost immunity.

Christ The Good Shepherd Church is followed by nearly 200,000 people on YouTube.
