Say Goodbye to Trudeau’s Out of Control Spending and Reckless Carbon Tax

Trudeau stepped down but he also suspended Parliament to avoid a vote of no confidence.

Parliament is Prorogued

CBC Canada reports With Trudeau on his way out, Parliament is prorogued. Here’s what that means

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said he will be stepping down from the country’s top office and from his role as Liberal Party leader as soon as a replacement is chosen.

In the same breath, he also confirmed Parliament will be prorogued, or suspended, until March 24.

Prorogation effectively allows the prime minister to hit pause on Parliament. The government remains in power, but all parliamentary activity — from existing bills and committee work to studies and investigations — comes to a halt.

A speech from the throne is then scheduled to kick off the next parliamentary session and lay out the government’s intentions going forward.

Why prorogue Parliament?

Prorogation is different than dissolution, which terminates Parliament and triggers a general election.

In this case, it means the Liberals will avoid a confidence vote and get more time to run a leadership race. Trudeau said confidence votes that come after March 24 will “allow Parliament to weigh in on confidence in a way that is entirely in keeping with all the principles of democracy.

“Anyone who’s been watching politics closely over the past months will know that Parliament has been entirely seized by obstruction, by filibustering and a total lack of productivity,” Trudeau said Monday when asked why he chose prorogation instead of immediately setting off the next election.

“It’s time for a reset. It’s time for the temperature to come down.”

Hoot of the Day

Trudeau says that he suspended Parliament “keeping with all the principles of democracy.”

The Likely Next PM Blasts Trudeau

“Over the last nine years, all Liberal politicians actively worked to pass into law the job-killing, inflationary carbon tax, a tax that Carney endorsed in his book. “All supported a law quadrupling the tax over the next five years. All voted for or actively supported Trudeau’s out-of-control spending, debt, and immigration. All passed Trudeau’s housing policies that doubled the cost of homes.”

“All Liberal politicians helped pass catch-and-release bail and house arrest for the most rampant re-offenders, policies that increased violent crime by 50%, gun crime by 116%, and hate crime by 250%. So, given that Liberal MPs and leadership contenders unanimously supported everything Trudeau has done, why dump him now, right before an election?”

Have they had a change of heart? Is it because they feel guilty that they doubled housing costs, hiked taxes, unleashed crime, broke immigration, and forced a quarter of the population into poverty?

“No. They continued supporting Trudeau when he did all of those things. Their only objection is that he is no longer popular enough to win an election and keep them in power. They want to protect their pensions and paychecks by sweeping their hated leader under the rug months before an election to trick you and then do it all over again.”

Vigilant Fox Comments

The Liberal Party’s views haven’t changed, but they’re desperate to cut ties with Trudeau before they collapse alongside him.

Soured Vision

The Wall Street Journal notes Trudeau to Resign as Voters Sour on His Vision for Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that he will resign after almost a decade in power, bowing to members of his party who have been calling on him to step aside ahead of an election later this year.

“It has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,” Trudeau said during an announcement from the country’s capital, Ottawa.

Trudeau said he would stay on as prime minister until the party chooses a new leader, a process that could take months. He also moved to suspend the current session of the legislature, to avoid facing a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

Public opinion polls released in late 2024 and early this year indicate Trudeau’s approval rating fell to about 20%, and the Liberal Party trails the Conservatives by over 20 percentage points.

Liberal lawmaker Wayne Long said the Liberal Party under Trudeau has swung too much to the left on the political spectrum, much like the Democrats in the U.S.

“I don’t want to use the word wokeism, but we’ve doubled down on things where we’ve come out as a moral authority,” said Long, who isn’t seeking re-election this year. “People are tired of it. It doesn’t mean that they’re right and we’re wrong, but reality bites, and reality sometimes sucks.”

Like Biden

The Journal notes “Trudeau promised to lead an inclusive government that would support the middle class, draw strength from the country’s diversity and position Canada as a more prominent player on the global stage.

But like Biden, Trudeau morphed into a divisive Progressive wet dream persona reviled by all but the wokest of the woke.

Second Canadian Hoot

People are tired of Wokeism but “it doesn’t mean they are right,” said Progressive Canadian clown, Wayne Long.

Returning to Pierre Poilievre … “Have they had a change of heart? Is it because they feel guilty that they doubled housing costs, hiked taxes, unleashed crime, broke immigration, and forced a quarter of the population into poverty?

Bingo.

Lesson of the Day

You can only ruin the country so much before there is a huge voter backlash.

However, Biden and Trudeau are both in denial. Biden even claims that he would have beaten Trump.

Biden is senile. What’s Trudeau’s excuse?

I look forward to a landslide victory by Tory leader Pierre Poilievre. Best wishes to Canada from Mish.

Trump’s 25 Percent Tax Bluff

By the way, Trump’s threat of a 25 percent tax on Canadian and Mexican imports ius a bluff.
