DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (TCN) — Investigators arrested a man this week they allege killed a missing woman and hid her remains in a well.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office announced Dec. 9 that Daniel Peel was taken into custody on charges of murder, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice for the death of Shamra Felkel. The sheriff’s office did not share additional information due to the ongoing investigation.
Jail records show Peel was denied bond.
Felkel’s family reported the 49-year-old missing on Oct. 7 but said she was last seen on Sept. 25.
According to WBTW-TV, investigators recently found human remains in a well and they were positively identified as Felkel. The coroner ruled her death a homicide. Officials allege Peel strangled Felkel to death during an argument on Sept. 25.
Felkel’s two daughters told WMBF-TV that Felkel “tried to tell Darlington County multiple times that her life was in danger,” but investigators were not responsive.
One daughter said, “Her life may have ended. Mine hasn’t, and I have to keep pushing and I just can’t give up because I feel like if I give up on myself then I’ll give up on her.”
Peel and Felkel’s relationship was not immediately clear.
