BAMBERG COUNTY, S.C. (TCD) — Officials charged a 28-year-old man after he allegedly killed his missing 25-year-old girlfriend and tried to burn her remains.
According to the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office, Megan Bodiford was last seen on Thursday, April 25, in Denmark, South Carolina. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) said several days later, on April 30, authorities found human remains in a burnt vehicle off of Turn Ray Road.
Investigators identified Jarrett Davis as the primary suspect. According to the SLED, Davis allegedly shot and killed Bodiford, a mother of three, on April 25 before placing her body in her vehicle and setting it on fire.
On Friday, May 3, the SLED charged Davis with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony offense, third-degree arson, and desecration of human remains.
According to an incident report reviewed by WIS-TV, before her alleged shooting death, Bodiford texted a friend and said she was worried her boyfriend, Davis, was going to kill her. After Bodiford was reported missing, authorities reportedly searched the couple’s home and arrested Davis on an active domestic violence warrant.
Although officials did not find Bodiford’s remains in the residence at the time, they allegedly located the victim’s 4-month-old baby unharmed. A family member took custody of the baby, WIS reports.
Investigators reportedly believe the remains are Bodiford, but the Bamberg County Coroner’s Office has not yet positively identified the remains found in the car, according to WIS.
