A woman has left social media users in shock after revealing what’s inside a vape.

Vaping has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with an increasing number of teenagers getting their hands on the devices.

A woman named Maria recently shared how she and her flatmates decided to kick their vaping habits. They put all their vapes in a jar of water to prevent themselves from using them.

However, Maria was left horrified by the “revolting” colour of the water, exposing the contents of their vapes.

She showcased the jar in a recent TikTok video, which garnered three million likes. Maria said: “If you need a reminder to quit vaping, this is a jar full of water me and my roommates compiled, of all our vapes we put in when we told ourselves we were going to quit vaping.”

Pointing to the discoloured water, she added: “But that’s actually really disgusting. Look at that, it’s like black and there’s a mystery goo in the little jar. Isn’t that just disgusting?

“So if you’re like wow I want to quit vaping, look at that.” Commenting on the video, one viewer wrote: “It’s so dumb to pick up vaping if you didn’t even smoke or do anything beforehand.”

“So glad I’ve never started vaping,” chimed in another. A third, also attempting to quit, shared: “16 hours not vaping and it’s killing me. I’m taking this as a sign to keep going!” Another user expressed gratitude, writing: “You just saved me.”

A fifth individual, who has successfully quit, remarked: “Quit vaping when I was sick and I’m now 21 days vape free and haven’t even had a craving for them.” Another former vaper declared: “I quit, I’m never going back.”

What do experts say?

The NHS warns: “Vapes can contain nicotine, and they can quickly become harmfully addictive for children and young people. Make sure that you know the risks of this increasingly popular activity.”

It further advises: “Vaping is not completely harmless and we only recommend it for adult smokers, to support quitting smoking and staying quit. While the long-term effects of vaping are still being researched, it’s thought they can have a negative impact on the health of the heart and lungs.”

Cancer Research UK cautions: “Some potentially harmful chemicals have been found in e-cigarettes. They should only be used to help you stop smoking, or to stop you going back to tobacco. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is addictive. If you have never smoked, you shouldn’t use e-cigarettes.”
