Today, a police helicopter was seen flying over the Masca Gorge, while ground teams, including officers from the Greim mountain rescue unit and scent dogs, continued their search.

The multi-agency operation also involves firefighters and local Civil Protection workers. Drones are also being used to aid the search efforts.

One source confirmed: “There’s no talk at this stage of scaling down the efforts to find this missing man and certainly not of suspending it. The plan at the moment is to continue until he is found.

“Officers obviously are prepared for the possibility they may find a body but at the moment everyone is focused on the idea he is still alive and they can help reunite him with his family and friends.”

Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, traveled to Tenerife to assist in the search earlier this week. She has made a public plea for help, expressing her distress by saying: “I just want my baby back.”

Jay’s friend Lucy Law also said earlier this week: “He is not stupid. if he left the house on his own he would have walked to the road and then tried to flag a car down or stop someone for help.

“The more time passes and he has not been seen then the more we are convinced he has been taken by someone and is being held against his will.

“The whole thing is just so weird someone must have seen him, we are all extremely worried and the more it goes on the more dodgier it looks. I just think the fact that no one has seen him makes it all the more sinister.”
