FORT DODGE, Iowa (TCD) — Two brothers are in custody after their father was found dead in a ditch in a rural area last week.

On Friday, April 26, at around 12:18 p.m., a mail carrier called law enforcement after finding human remains on his route, according to Fort Dodge Police. Webster County deputies responded to the scene and found 55-year-old Dennis Jones deceased with a gunshot wound.

Police identified 26-year-old Alec Jones and 21-year-old Nathan Jones as the primary suspects. Officials believe the victim was shot at another location before the body was placed in the ditch.

The victim’s wife told KCCI-TV that the night before her husband was found dead, she and Dennis Jones got into an argument, and then she went to bed.

Criminal complaints obtained by WHO-TV allege the suspects planned the killing. Alec Jones allegedly shot Dennis Jones “numerous times” between April 25 and April 26 before moving the body. According to the complaints, Nathan Jones allegedly “conspired, aided and abetted, and worked in concert” with Alec Jones.

Police served a search warrant at a home on 2nd Avenue South and arrested Alec Jones on a charge of first-degree murder and Nathan Jones on a charge of aiding and abetting first-degree murder.
