Inside spellbinding ancient Indian ceremony performed in oldest living city in the world

Thousands of Indians of all ages and religions gather to witness the aarti ceremony of light every day in the oldest living city in the world, Varanasi. 

Also known by its Sanskrit name “Kashi”, meaning City of Light, ancient Varanasi, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is roughly 3,000 years old. 

Some 1.8 million people live in India’s spiritual capital and its local MP happens to be the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi

Varanasi has also gained the moniker “City of Temples” due to its abundance of sacred and ancient sites which attract millions of visitors, both Western and Indian, every year.
