PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (TCN) — Police arrested a 54-year-old security guard they allege shot and killed a McDonald’s customer during an argument over the weekend because the customer wouldn’t leave.
The Prince George’s County Police Department said in a statement that on March 1 at 8:25 p.m., officers were called to the 2300 block of University Boulevard regarding an altercation and found 45-year-old Ricardo Clemons Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Police said the suspect, Murwanashyaka Francois, worked at the location where the shooting occurred, and they arrested him for second-degree murder and other charges.
Court records cited by WRC-TV say Clemons frequented the location and was “often asked to leave due to loitering.”
Francois allegedly told Clemons to vacate the McDonald’s, but he refused. Francois reportedly “deployed pepper spray in the decedent’s face,” which caused them to get into a physical fight. WRC reports Francois hit Clemons with a baton, then shot him moments later.
Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Bravebo told WTTG-TV, “At this time, we have no evidence that the decedent in this case was armed and was a true threat in terms of the life of the security guard.”
Court records show Francois was denied bond.
