HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. (TCN) — A 50-year-old man faces multiple charges for allegedly killing his wife by setting off an explosive device while she was in the car.
According to WSVN-TV, on Feb. 1 just before 6 a.m., firefighters responded to an address on Northwest 114th Terrace and 88th Court and located a car on fire with someone inside. Investigators reportedly obtained surveillance video that showed the vehicle stop and the suspect, Noel Ruiz-Mestre, exit. Seconds later, the car burst into flames.
WPLG-TV reports Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office investigators believe an “unknown incendiary device or improvised explosive device” caused the incident. The wife, who was not identified, reportedly attempted to get out of the car. Police said she was “burned beyond recognition.”
Ruiz-Mestre reportedly stabbed himself in the stomach multiple times before law enforcement located him. He was rushed to a hospital after suffering injuries from the stabbing and fire.
Miami-Dade County jail records show Ruiz-Mestre is being charged with second-degree murder and arson.
