The family of a man who went missing in Tenerife has been overjoyed to find him safe and sound. Liam Hannigan, 34, had been holidaying on the Spanish island with friends he met during his trip, which began on December 29 with his partner. However, alarm bells rang when he lost contact with his loved ones back home in Clifton, Greater Manchester, from February 7.

His sister Ellie had shared concerns about Liam’s mental state prior to his disappearance, stating that the family was “very worried about his well-being”. The family flew out to look for their beloved son and were able to locate him swiftly.

A search was initiated, with the Missing Person’s Tenerife page on social media amplifying his details. In a heartening turn of events, his sister Ellie confirmed on Facebook that he has been located. She posted: “My Mum and Dad have successfully found Liam while searching for him in Tenerife this evening. He is now on his way back to safety with them, where he will receive the necessary care he needs.”

She expressed her relief at knowing Liam was safe and thanked everyone for their support and love.  She added: “Although Liam has been found, he still requires medical help before we can bring him back to Manchester. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us during this incredibly difficult time”, reports The Mirror.

Earlier, Ellie addressed the rumours swirling on social media about Liam’s situation, stating: “To address the rumours circulating on social media, we want to make it clear Liam is not out drinking or involved in any illegal activities. This isn’t about a “bender” or him wandering off drunk. He is unwell, and what he needs right now is medical attention and the care that will help him get back to health.”

She emphasised the family’s commitment to supporting Liam during this difficult time, urging for understanding and compassion. “Mental health struggles are real, and it’s crucial that we give people the help they need-especially when they are going through something like this.”

Ellie also revealed that her family was heading to Tenerife to find Liam and ensure he receives the necessary help, She said: “My family are on the first flight out this morning to hopefully find Liam and get him the help he needs and eventually get him back home. Thank you to everyone who is sharing the posts and sending us well wishes.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed their involvement, saying: “We are supporting the family of a British man in Tenerife.”
