Alicia Brown Joins Commercial Space Federation as Executive Director

January 28, 2025 – Washington, DC — The Commercial Space Federation (CSF) announced today that Alicia Brown, former NASA Associate Administrator for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, will be joining the association as Executive Director focusing on space policy and legislative affairs.The Commercial Space Federation is the leading voice for the commercial space industry. With 80+ member companies, CSF encompasses all key aspects of the commercial space industrial base. This includes, but is not limited to, launch and re-entry, commercial space stations, spaceports, stratospheric airships, space exploration, remote sensing, space situational awareness, space solar power, and satellite service providers. CSF members are responsible for the creation of thousands of high-tech jobs and are reinventing the space sector as we know it.Ms. Brown is a veteran space policy and legislative affairs professional. In her most recent role, she led NASA’s legislative affairs team and served as a senior advisor to former NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and agency leaders on space policy and legislation, Congress, industry relations, and budget/appropriations matters.Alicia will report to Dave Cavossa, CSF President, and support the Federation’s mission to unleash the U.S. commercial space industry. “Ms. Brown is a huge addition to the team as we expand our presence and become the voice of the commercial space industry,” said Cavossa. “As a new Congress and Administration take over, she will be instrumental to helping us grow our presence alongside appropriators and authorizers, and within the intersection between the commercial industry, national security, and civil space sectors.”Throughout her career, Ms. Brown gained extensive experience in legislative affairs and government relations. From 2015-2021, she served as a professional staff member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, advising members of the Senate on policy to U.S. civil space programs, commercial space, science policy, and U.S. competitiveness. As a Congressional staffer, she helped to author space legislation including the NASA Transition Act of 2017 and the NASA Authorization Act of 2022. Ms. Brown has also served as the government relations manager for Harris Corporation. While operating as a legislative aide to former Senator Bill Nelson, she advised on policy for space programs, the defense budget, and national security. Ms. Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs and economics, and her Master of Arts degree in international relations from Florida State University.Founded in 2006, CSF and its members are laying the foundation for democratizing access to outer space for scientists, students, civilians, and businesses. All while working towards the goal of expanding the U.S. Commercial Space Economy. Through the promotion of technological innovation, CSF and its diverse membership are guiding the bolstering of U.S. leadership in aerospace and inspiring America’s next generation of engineers and explorers. CSF also serves as the commercial space industry’s primary advocate with the U.S. Congress and the Administration, helping inform the development and implementation of policy priorities. By engaging with congressional players, CSF is able to provide recommendations on commercial space issues that will impact the commercial space industry in the short and long-term.
