Leaders in the House GOP are expected to discuss foreign aid and the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Tuesday in a press conference.
The southern U.S. border has in recent years faced many more migrants than the federal officials can process efficiently. Republicans, who still hold the narrowest of majorities in the House, have contended for months that the secretary’s performance has amounted to a willful dereliction of duty.
However, Senate Democrats are expected to move as quickly as possible to dismiss the articles of impeachment rather than holding a full trial, denying that any sufficient offenses apply.
The remarks also come after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) unveiled his plan to move foreign aid through the House.
The press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. EDT.
