NORTH PORT, Fla. (TCD) — A 37-year-old man faces charges after allegedly abducting an underage girl he met on social media, keeping her in his home, and sexually assaulting her.
According to a statement from the North Port Police Department, David Bunn met the minor online and used a ride-sharing service to bring the victim to his residence. The victim failed to return home, and police learned she could be with Bunn.
Officers responded to his home on Kenwood Drive. Bunn initially denied that the girl was there, but officers eventually found her inside. The victim reportedly told police she had been drugged and sexually battered. Bunn also allegedly wouldn’t let her leave his home.
Police arrested Bunn on charges of sexual battery on a child, interfering with the custody of a minor, and kidnapping. Officials booked him into the Sarasota County Jail on April 8, where he remains held without bond.
North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said, “Please do your best to keep track of who your children are talking to online or keep them off it altogether. We understand that it is not easy, but monsters like this are real, and they are closer than you might imagine.”
