OCALA, Fla. (TCD) — Police recently arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of secretly placing cameras in the bathroom and bedroom of his ex-girlfriend’s daughter.
According to a news release from the Ocala Police Department, on May 17, a mother contacted police after finding out about a hidden camera in an electrical outlet in her daughter’s bathroom. An officer recovered the device, which police said was blinking and aimed toward the shower and toilet.
During the investigation, the mother reportedly told authorities she used to be in a relationship with John Butler, and he lived with them at one point.
Police responded to the home again on May 19 in reference to another camera found in the daughter’s room. The device was reportedly disguised as a Wi-Fi repeater, which Butler allegedly installed several years ago.
A detective arrested Butler at his place of work, Butler Insurance, on a charge of video voyeurism. The suspect reportedly agreed to speak with officers for an interview, but he later invoked his Fifth Amendment right when asked about the incident.
Butler was booked into the Marion County Jail on May 22.
